Pilgrimage
and Encampment at Valley Forge, Feb 17
– 19, 2012
The Valley Forge Pilgrimage and Encampment is the
oldest annual Scouting event in the United
States. It
was first held on February 22, 1913 (George
Washington's 181st birthday),
and has been held every year since. The
event is hosted by the Cradle
of Liberty Council and commemorates the soldiers of the Continental
Army who braved the winter of 1777-78 at Valley
Forge. Each year more than
2,000 scouts brave the winter chill
of the Delaware
Valley to participate.
I will need a
confirmation from the scouts at the February 7th
Troop meeting. The
cost is $20.00 plus patrol cooking.
To
prepare the boys
for this challenging trip, a Cold Weather Camping Seminar is being held
at the
January 31st meeting starting at 7PM. It’s
important that any scout
planning on attending this event attend this seminar.
Permission
Slips will
be handed out at the January 31st meeting or you
can download one
here.
Troop
Elections for SPL in
February.
The
troop will nominate
and vote for the next SPL to serve a six month term. Nominations will
take
place on February 14, Campaigning on February 21 and Elections on
February 28.
Scouts must be 13 years old, obtained First Class and attended National
Youth
Leadership Training (N.Y.L.T.)
National
Youth Leadership Training, March 23 -25
and 30-April 1, 2011
National
Youth Leadership Training is a
two-weekend outdoor training program for youth leaders in a troop
setting. It’s
an opportunity to learn leadership skills, teamwork, team building,
planning, teaching and
scout skills. Plus, you will learn how to make
these things happen with your troop.
The
conference will be held on two consecutive
weekends, March 23 -25 and 30-April 1, 2011. Both start on Friday at
5:00PM and
goes until Sunday at 4:00PM.
Scout
must be at least 13 years old and have a
least the rank of first class. Cost is $125.00. Troop 1 will reimburse
the
scout $62.50 upon successful completion of the course and a
scoutmaster’s
conference. Registration must be received by the Jersey Shore Council with
a $25.00
deposit. Conference is limited.
